Marjorie Edith Knopf Carr

Marjorie Edith Knopf was born on June 8, 1941 in South Kent Connecticut, the second of three daughters (Barbara and Susan) to George Knopf and Helen Kebebian. The family moved to the Philadelphia area during WWII and moved to Washington, DC in 1948.

Marjorie graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1959 and afterwards obtained a BS in Sociology from George Washington University of DC. She worked in social service in West Virginia and Kentucky and relocated to Boston, MA. She relocated to Maui, Hawaii and worked with troubled youth and then moved to Philadelphia, working in a Community Center and finally with the Municipal government in child protective services.

She met her husband, Cornelius Carr, at a Catholic Alumni function. They were married in 1978 and have a daughter Elizabeth.

Marjorie died on May 4, 2026, after 3/12 years battling cancer.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 10:00 AM with burial in the Memorial Garden on the church’s grounds.
