Mary Lou Retty, age 87, of Venice, Florida passed away on July 8, 2008. She was born on June 3, 1921 in Oxford, Alabama. She was Ms. Northeast Alabama in 1938 and moved to Venice in 1950. She was the owner & operator of Slenderette Salon for Ladies in Venice in 1960. She was Mrs. Venice in 1964 and finalist that year in the Mrs. Florida contest. She was also an active member of the Venice-Nokomis Drove # 141 D.O.E.S. for many years. In more recent years she was self-employed in real estate, developing Retty Properties in the Venice Industrial Park. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Hurt of Venice; two brothers, Richard Box of Anniston, Alabama, Gerald Box of Paducah, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Joe Hurt, Randal Hurt, Mary McMullen and three great-grandchildren, Carlton Hurt, Zoe Hurt and Michael McMullen. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00pm on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Farley Funeral Home in Venice. A funeral service will be held 10:30am, Friday, July 18, 2008 at Farley Funeral Home in Venice with burial to follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood. Farley Funeral Home in Venice is handling the arrangements.
