Robert George Mclaughlin
May 21, 1932 — April 10, 2018
Robert George McLaughlin, Venice, Florida passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at home surrounded by his family.
George was born in Coniston, Ontario, Canada, on May 21, 1932 to William and Gertrude McLaughin.
George leaves his loving wife Dagmar McLaughin, his son Keir Mclaughlin of Venice, daughter Vanessa Perini, son-in-law Charles Perini and grand daughters, Gianna and Christina, of Harvard, Massachusetts and his brother-in-law Othmar Stein of Kanata, Ontario. He also leaves his sister, Beryl McLaughlin of Kincardine, Ontario and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Bill McLaughlin of Edmonton, Alberta.
George served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving as a pilot and member of the 426nd Squadron. He went around the world with the RCAF, flew transport on the RCAF NorthStar and the “Mosquito” airplanes. After he completed his RCAF service, he moved with his young bride, Dagmar, to the United States. They settled in Upstate New York where he accepted a commercial airline pilot position with Mohawk Airlines. He continued with the same company which was renamed Allegheny Airlines and retired from US Airways in 1990. As much as George loved to fly, he also enjoyed the outdoor life of living in the country on an old farmstead in Holland Patent, NY, where they raised their family before moving to Florida. George was an active member of the Venice Yacht Club for many years.
Memorial service will take place at the Venice Presbyterian Church, on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11:00am.
