Sharyl Lou Lyon

Sharyl Salisbury Lyon passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026 at home in Venice, FL. Sharyl was born on July 28, 1941 in Bluffton, IN and raised by her parents, Charles and Gretchen Salisbury in Dunkirk, IN.

After high school she became a Registered Nurse with an associate degree through Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. Her nursing career was spent working with psychiatric patients.

Sharyl is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dave Lyon, Venice, FL, one sister, Sandra Myers, West Lafayette, IN, two daughters, Lori Nissalke (Brad), Tampa, FL and Lisa Abel (Scott), Clearwater, FL, and four granddaughters, Kristina Abel, Louisville, KY, Gabrielle Cooper (Reece), Brookhaven, GA, Olivia Nissalke, Austin, TX and Katelyn Abel (soon to be Nick), Hendersonville, TN.

Sharyl loved to dance and was a twist champion in high school. She became a proficient tennis player, rated 3.5 and played on a travel team. Sharyl loved playing Mah Jongg and had a new card every year. Her favorite volunteer activity was at ARF, a dog and cat rescue organization in Muncie. She also loved volunteering at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie and Shore Point Hospital in Venice, FL.In her later life, she and Dave retired to Venice, FL where they enjoyed warm weather and many theater shows in Venice and Sarasota. Sharyl was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Venice.

A celebration of life in Muncie is being planned.
