Thomas Fox Obituary

Thomas William Fox, 82, of Venice, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, June 27, 2026, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Tom and his beloved wife, Jean, were the longtime owners of Fox Furniture in Venice, established in 1961. He was born on July 8, 1943, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Thomas James and Elizabeth "Libby" Malady Fox, and was raised in Muncie, Indiana. Tom was one of seven siblings. In 1959, the family moved to Florida, where Tom was a 1961 graduate of Pasco High School. It was there that Tom and his father opened their first used furniture and appliance store. After a leisurely Sunday drive, his parents decided to move the family to the beautiful city of Venice, where Tom and his father opened the original Fox Furniture on the corner of Nokomis and Miami Avenue. Tom met the love of his life, Jean Driggers, at the local bank, where she would often balance the store checkbook for him. After a short courtship, they were married just a few months later. Tom had a lifelong love of classic cars and owned many over the years. He was also an honorary member of the Venice Vagabonds and a devoted Miami Dolphins fan through and through. Before Jean's passing, the two shared a love of traveling across the United States in their RV, making cherished memories with friends along the way. They also enjoyed supporting NASCAR Truck teams during their travels; Tom would often purchase tires to help support the team, while Jean served as the team cook. Together, they found great joy in RV'ing, friendship, and the many adventures they shared. Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean; his parents, Tom and Libby; his sisters, Betty Fox and Maureen Fox Jeffers; and his brother, James Fox. He is survived by his three sisters, Kathryn Fox Brogan, Pat Fox Waters (Joe), and Mary Fox Waits; his three daughters, Carol Fox Fiederer (David), Margie Fox Pierre (Jim), and Kim Fox Garmon (Jamie); seven grandchildren, Matthew Florea, Tom Florea, Paul Fiederer, Jordan Pierre, Will Pierre, Cory Garmon (Natalie), and Hunter Garmon (Maddy); four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His family was truly his pride and joy. The family would like to thank his amazing caregivers who tended to his needs over the past few years as his Parkinson's progressed. For them, we are eternally grateful! As a longtime resident of Venice, Tom's family invites relatives and friends to attend his Celebration of Life on Friday, July 3, from 4–8 PM at the Pinebrook Clubhouse, 1348 Featherbed Ln, Venice, FL 34285. Guests are welcome to stop in anytime and raise a toast to a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Parkinson's Association of SWFL, https://parkinsonassociationswfl.org, or to TLC Humane Society, 1735 Red Oak Flats Road, Dahlonega, GA 30533, https://tlchs.networkforgood.com.
