Eddie Mercado
January 1, 1961 — April 6, 2024
Eddie Mercado, 63, passed away on April 6, 2024, after a short illness, in Tampa, Florida, where he chose to retire. Eddie grew up in Willimantic, CT. He graduated from Windham High School in 1979 and immediately enlisted in the Air Force where he served for four years. Most of his career was spent at NCR and Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut where he had roles in IT and gaming.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 30 years, Milagros. Although they had previously parted ways, they had renewed their love for each other in recent years. He was a proud father to four daughters, Melissa Dumont, Alicia Laboy, Alexandra Silva, and Elaini Mercado, and an even prouder grandfather to seven grandchildren who were the center of his universe. Eddie could often be heard telling stories about his grandchildren, ones he couldn’t tell without beaming with laughter. His sense of humor was one of his best traits and he always had the right words to lighten any situation.
Eddie was a lover of Sci-Fi, comedy and law enforcement shows. On any given day, Eddie could be found watching Law & Order, NCIS, Star Trek or Friends. He spent his days taking drives to the nearby beaches and stopping in at Dunkin for his favorite drink. To know Eddie was to know he had a strong love for coffee and sandwiches! He also spent long hours on the phone talking to his daughters or grandchildren so as not to miss any event in their lives. He attended milestone celebrations even if it meant a trip up north to cold weather. Nothing stopped Eddie from reaching out to family members near and far. He was a true family man and his family adored him. Eddie will remain forever in our hearts.
Eddie will be laid to rest at the Sarasota National Cemetery on May 21, 2024,
