Ann Hurley

February 6, 1941 — May 12, 2025

Dannis Ann Hurley, 84, passed away peacefully Monday, May 12 in Tumwater, WA surrounded by family. Born February 6, 1941 in Lockney, Texas to John and Annie Sappenfield, Ann lived in Texas, Arkansas, Pasco, WA and Seattle before moving to Tenino in 1957 where she lived for 67 years. Ann graduated from Tenino High School in 1959 and while in high school she began working at the local bank and continued that career until retiring as Tenino branch manager of Puget Sound National Bank in 1986. The bank went though several owners while she worked there, including Thurston County Bank and the Bank of Olympia. Ann was a fixture in the Tenino community known for helping people whenever she could and also served the community as a member of the city council in the mid 1970’s. After retiring from the bank, Ann cared for her grandchildren and also worked as a paraeducator at the Parkside Elementary School, leaving a lasting impact on scores of kids that she loved so much.

Ann met the love of her life, Bob Hurley, shortly after moving to Tenino in 1957. Bob and Ann were king and queen at the THS prom in 1959 and were married on February 13, 1960 in Tenino. Ann led a life full of love and full devotion to her family. She is survived by her husband Bob, her son Gary (Pam), her son Brian (Jennifer), five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Donnie, Lonnie, and Jack.

Those who knew Ann speak of her unwavering devotion to her faith and her family. She was generous beyond belief and went out of her way to always make sure everyone felt special and included at every turn. Ann enjoyed gardening and cultivating beautiful flowers that attracted birds to her yard that bought her much joy. She enjoyed watching the Mariners and cheering on her favorite players. Ann enjoyed reading and spending hours on the phone speaking with her family and close circle of friends.

A Celebration of life will be held from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, July 5, at the Quarry House in Tenino located at 319 W Park Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Tenino Volunteer Firefighters Association, PO Box 4010, Tenino, WA 98589. As Ann would always say … bye for now!
