Donald Wayne Hawkins

Jan 2, 1938 — May 27, 2026

Donald Wayne Hawkins, a devoted husband, loving father, and proud member of his community, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, in Olympia, Washington. Born on January 2, 1938, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Donald lived a life marked by dedication, both to his family and his country.

Donald’s early years took root in the vibrant city of Seattle, Washington, where he completed his high school education. His commitment to service was evident through his honorable tenure in the United States Coast Guard, reflecting a deep sense of duty and patriotism that stayed with him throughout his life.

Professionally, Donald built a distinguished career as an iron worker, a trade demanding steadfast resilience and skill—qualities he demonstrated every day. Alongside his working life, he was deeply involved in local organizations, serving as past president of the Shriner Club for Thurston and Mason Counties, a testament to his leadership and community spirit. His commitment extended to the AM Vets, where he also served as past commander, championing the support and recognition of fellow veterans.

Donald’s personal passions brought joy and vibrancy to his life. He treasured moments spent cruising and snorkeling, indulging in the wonders of the sea, and was a meticulous collector of coins, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for history and detail. Above all, his proudest accomplishment remained his marriage to Cheryl Lucas-Hawkins, a union filled with love and enduring partnership.

He leaves behind a cherished family: his wife Cheryl Hawkins, daughters Laurie, Dawn (her husband David), and Donya, along with nine beloved grandchildren who were a source of immense pride and happiness. These ties sustained him and were a central part of his legacy.

Donald was preceded in death by his brother Darryl, daughter Kristi, and his parents Ralph and Verniece, whose memories he held close to his heart.

A celebration of Donald Wayne Hawkins’ life will be held on July 25, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Funeral Alternatives of Washington in Tumwater, Washington.
