Jose Gonzalo Valadez

August 6, 1936 — June 3, 2026

José Gonzalo Valadez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and treasured member of the community, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, in Tumwater, Washington. Born on August 6, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, and raised by his Grandmother and Aunt in Piedras Negras, Mexico, José’s life was a testament to culture and deep family love.

A graduate of Onarga Military High School in Onarga, Illinois, José went on to forge a career as a Press Operator across various locations in Chicago. Throughout his working years, José’s diligence and commitment were unmistakable. He later moved to Washington state where he worked in the Department of Printing — including several years at the capitol building, printing bills for the legislature — until his retirement in 1998.

Those who knew José well would describe him as very social and outgoing — a man who cherished meaningful conversations with everyone he encountered. He devoted himself passionately to his family and his community, often sharing the beauty of his Mexican heritage. José’s involvement spanned numerous cultural and advocacy organizations, such as the Hispanic Arts Committee and Hispanic American Society. His spirit of service was evident in his participation in various community projects and fundraisers, always seeking to uplift and empower others.

Music was a cornerstone of José’s life, particularly his love for playing various types of drums over many years. As a co-founder and host of “El Mensaje Del Aire,” a Spanish language radio program on KAOS, he brought culture and joy into countless homes spanning three decades.

At home, José took pride in his surroundings, including the collection of art from Latin America that he and his wife Christina selected together on their many travels. Their beautiful property, Rancho Las Lomas, served as the perfect backdrop for hosting friends and family, especially during large summer gatherings filled with laughter, music, and culinary delights. An aficionado of good food and red wine, José loved nothing more than sharing meals with those dear to him.

Throughout his life, José found joy and companionship in the animals he cared for — several dogs, cats, and horses over the years — which added warmth and vitality to his days. José took immense pride in his family, seeing them as his greatest accomplishment. He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Christina Valadez; sons Joseph, Matthew, Ricardo, and Victor Valadez; numerous nieces and nephews; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of love and heritage.

His memory is also cherished with heartfelt remembrance of those who have gone before him: his beloved son Michael Valadez; parents Lauro Valadez and Joséfina Flores; grandparents Cleofas Valadez de la Cerda and Melquiadez Valadez; aunt Guillermina Valadez; brothers Jesus and Armando Valadez; and sister Dora Canchola.

José Gonzalo Valadez leaves behind a legacy marked by warmth, commitment, and an unyielding dedication to family and community. His life touched many through his vibrant personality, his cultural advocacy, and his loving spirit. While he will be profoundly missed, his memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him. A Celebration of Life will be planned for this summer.
