Judith Bunce Obituary

Judith M. (Carr) Bunce, 86, of Olympia, Wash., passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, at John Charles Care Home after a lengthy battle with dementia. 

Born in Olympia, Wash., to Floyd and Dorothy Carr, Judy grew up in Olympia and graduated from Olympia High School and the University of Washington School of Nursing. She went on to work as a nurse for more than 40 years; in the 1990s, she managed three surgical departments at Providence St. Peter Hospital and pioneered the Pre-Admission Clinic. She concluded her career serving members of the US Military as a Tricare case management unit manager.

 In addition to her career in the sciences, Judy enjoyed the arts; she played the piano, flute, and piccolo beautifully. She enjoyed summers spent near the water with family, either fishing near Johnson Point or clam digging on the Washington coast. A life member of the University of Washington Alumni Association, autumns were for football-for many years, she and her husband, Jerry, enjoyed attending Apple Cups with her brother and sister-in-law, who were ardent WSU alumni. 

In their later years, Judy and her husband traveled to Germany, Austria, France, England, and Ireland, returning with small treasures for their home. They built a cabin on the coast enjoyed by family and friends; Judy spent several happy days with her husband during construction learning to operate a chop saw and nailing cedar shakes on the garage walls.

 Judy is survived by her husband Jerry; daughter Barbara Bunce Holtry of Vancouver, Wash.; son Michael (Christine) Bunce of Dieburg, Germany; grandson Christoph Bunce of Maintal, Germany; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Elizabeth (Walter) Craig, and brother William (Shelley) Carr.

 A funeral will be held at noon July 24, 2026, at Odd Fellows Memorial Park, 3802 Cleveland Avenue SE, Tumwater.
