Richard Allen Norman

August 2, 1934 — May 16, 2026

Richard Allen Norman, a man of unwavering integrity and tireless work ethic, passed away peacefully in Centralia, Washington, on May 16, 2026. Born on August 2, 1934, in Seattle, Washington to Joseph Norman and Alleen Kootz (deceased). Richard's life was marked by dedication, both to his family and his craft, earning him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

Richard’s early years were shaped by his service in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954, followed by continued commitment in the USMC Reserves. This foundation of discipline and honor was reflected throughout his lifetime. After his military service, he channeled his skills into a notable career as a machinist and mechanic, including a longstanding tenure at Metro in Tukwila. His professional life was distinguished not only by his expertise but by the honesty and reliability that defined him.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard was deeply passionate about automobiles. He was an aficionado of classic cars, building and maintaining them with great care and proudly participating in car shows. His talents extended to master woodworking, alongside a genuine enthusiasm for sports. His love for games such as bridge and cribbage enriched his social life, and his prowess as a grill master drew family and friends together in joyful gatherings.

Richard’s family was his greatest legacy. In 1960, he married Sandra Parker and they had two children. He and Sandra later divorced. Richard, after many years working at Metro in Tukwila, met Marcia Brooks. They married in March of 1987, sharing many valued years together until her own passing. Through these relationships, Richard embraced his roles with great love, becoming a devoted father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his sons, David and Daniel Norman; stepson John Brooks and his wife Tricia Brooks; stepdaughter Heather Brooks; and former daughter-in-law Shelley Hansen. He was preceded in death by Sandra L. Norman and Marcia Norman. Richard’s legacy also thrives in the lives of his grandchildren: Erin Norman, Ryan and Rhiannon Norman, Rebecca North, Ali and Loren Bates, Spenser and Jessica Brooks, Maria and Josh Wright, Sasha Brooks, Adeline and Sylvie Denton. His great-grandchildren Dorothy Bates and Lucian Stratton carry forward his memory and spirit.

Richard’s contributions extended beyond his family and profession. He was a man who built not only machines but a family bound by love and respect—a testament to his character and the many lives he touched. His passing leaves a profound sense of loss but also a legacy that endures through generations.

Services to honor Richard’s life will be held at Centralia Community Church of God, located at 3320 Borst Avenue, Centralia, WA, on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 11 a.m.

Richard Allen Norman will be remembered as a man of honest integrity, a steadfast family leader, and a cherished friend to many. His life’s work and devotion continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know him.
