Clyde Elton Catoe
October 28, 1932 — February 28, 2023
Clyde Elton Catoe of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, February 28th, 2023. He was 90.
Clyde was born in Taxahaw, S.C. on October 28, 1932 and was the son of the late Clyde R. Catoe and Azalee Catoe. Clyde graduated from Flat Creek High School and married Sonja Catoe on March 13, 1958. They were happily married more than 42 years. Clyde was a devoted husband, loving & protective father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Clyde is survived by his son, Bobby Elton Catoe (Wanda) and daughter, Nancy Catoe Turnipseed (Donnie Smith); grandchildren, Megan Catoe McElroy (Tyler), Macy Lee Catoe, Chris Turnipseed (Kelli), Bobby Turnipseed (Kinsley); Great-grandchildren, Bailey McElroy, Ellis McElroy, Tyler Turnipseed, Charles Turnipseed, Allyce Turnipseed, Adelaide Turnipseed. He is survived by one sister, Wanda Catoe Outen. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Bobby Catoe, Dennis Catoe and sister Barbara Catoe Graves.
Clyde served 26 years in the United States Army providing dedicated full-time service to his nation. He was awarded the Bronze Star Metal for his service in Vietnam where he served 2 active-duty deployments. After retiring from active duty, Clyde worked for the civil service at Fort Jackson for 20 years as a heavy equipment supervisor where he received commendation for his work in supporting Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He was also a lifetime member of the Freemasons.
Services to honor Clyde’s well lived life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, S.C. at 3 pm. A visitation before the service will begin at 2 pm. The family will be there to welcome friends and relatives, and the Reverend Edgardo Figueroa of Bayview Baptist Church will be officiating.
Memorial donations may be given to Bayview Baptist Church, 5300 Two Notch Road, Columbia, S.C. 29204.
