Michael "Mike" Douglas Brooks, 83, formerly of Milledgeville, Georgia, passed away, May 16, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida after a lengthy illness.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sue Hutchins of Milledgeville and father Charles Douglas Brooks of Sandersville.
He is survived by a sister, Karel Goodrich (Robert) of Parrish, FL, a brother Tony Hutchins (Judy) of Wirtz, VA and a step-sister, Gayle Simmons of Milledgeville. He is also survived by a niece, Mandy Dorton of Orlando, FL, nephews, Brian Goodrich of Bradenton, FL , Scott Hutchins of Fort Mill, SC, Lewis Hutchins of Richmond, VA and Wesley Hutchins of Clayton, NC. Several grand nieces and nephews survive Mike.
"Mike" attended Georgia Military College High School and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1964. His appointment was by U.S. Representative Carl Vinson. He served in the Army, attending Ranger School, Airborne School, U.S. Special Warfare School and Viet Nam language school. He served in Germany, South Korea and two tours of duty in South Viet Nam as a combat Military Training Advisor to the Republic of Viet Nam Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Viet Nam Gallantry Cross with Silver Star, Combat Infantry Badge and numerous other service awards. After leaving the Army, he learned a law degree and practiced in Atlanta. He retired from the Georgia State Probation Office in Macon and opened his own online business, Orly Farm Books.
Mike was an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan. He loved books and was an ancestry expert. He was devoted to his cocker spaniels over many years. Services are planned for burial in Milledgeville.
