Theodore Cunningham

Theodore (Ted) Cunningham, age 83, of Anna Maria Island, Florida passed away at home on Saturday February 17, 2018. Ted was born in Liverpool, England on May 1, 1934 to Irene and James Cunningham, brother to Alma and Bernard and loving member of family in the United Kingdom. Married to Mary Lillian McGarrigle on April 2, 1956 in Liverpool, England. Their 62 years crossed three countries, England, Canada and the United States. Ted is survived by his wife Mary, five children, Michael (spouse Judy, daughter Elizabeth, son Theo); Ann (spouse Frank); John (spouse Melinda, sons Andrew and Matthew); Mark (spouse Kimberly, daughters Jennifer and Sara and sons Brad and Josh); Paul (spouse Yvette, son Brady and daughter Abby); ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren (Aiden, Abel and Olivia). Ted was famous for his boundless energy, lust for life and his awesome sense of humor, which was contagious and brought him many friends for life. He had a gift for bringing fun wherever he went. Ted was an avid sailor and motorcycle enthusiast. Both activities fed his desire for adventure and freedom. Ted’s thirst for knowledge and drive kept him working well into his 60s, avidly reading and reaching out to his friends, colleagues and acquaintances with his newsy and fun-filled emails. He was the greatest storyteller and had an anecdote for every situation. There was no stopping Ted, he was ready for anything. He loved his family unconditionally, encouraging them to reach farther, try harder and be the best you can be. If you needed anything, Ted was always there to help, no questions asked. His love for Mary was and is infinite. They were well-matched both loving to laugh, travel and enjoy times with family and friends. Their 62 years together is a testament to commitment, loyalty and true love. The Memorial Service will take place on Friday, February 23, 2018, at 11am at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 248 South Harbor Drive, Holmes Beach, Florida, 34217. Directly following the service for Ted, a Celebration of Life will be held at Bortell’s Lounge, 10002 Gulf Drive, Anna Maria, Florida, 34216. In lieu of flowers, the Family please asks that any donations be made in memory of Ted Cunningham to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
