On Wednesday, April 29, 2020, Carl Bennett Hough Jr “Benny”, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 73.
Benny was born on November 16, 1946 in Charlotte, NC to Carl and Ruth Hough. He was a 1965 graduate of Myers Park High School, was a US Navy veteran, and attended Central Piedmont Community College. He worked for the NC Department of Agriculture for over 30 years. On July 10, 1971 he married Deborah Morgan Hough who remained the love of his life for 48 years. They raised two children, Melanie and Brian. Benny was a deacon and member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church.
Benny loved spending time outdoors and was an avid runner. He enjoyed listening to music and loved animals. He was devoted to his four grandchildren and spent time with them almost everyday. He was known to them and others as “Papou”. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, and kind and compassionate spirit.
Benny was preceded in death by his mother Minnie Ruth Pope and father Carl Bennett Hough Sr. He is survived by his wife, Debbie, his two children, Melanie (Mark) Francis and Brian (Brooke) Hough, his four grandchildren Madison, Myles, Harper, and Charlotte, and his sisters Nellie Eanes and Dottie Boylston.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020 at Hankins and Whittington on East Blvd. Visitation will be from 11-12 and the service will follow for family and close friends. Memorial donations in memory of Benny can be made to the Charlotte Humane Society at 2646 Toomey Ave. Charlotte, NC 28203.
