Constance Ickes Drexler

Constance (Connie) Ickes Drexler, age 96, of Matthews, NC, passed away peacefully at the Briar Creek Health Center at the Barclay in Charlotte, NC, with her daughter by her side. 

Connie, daughter of the late Ruth Jenkins Ickes and Homer Charles Ickes, was born in Moon Run, PA and lived most of her life in the Pittsburgh area (Robinson and Moon Townships). 

She was married to the late Gerald (Jerry) Drexler for almost 50 years. They had one daughter, Kim Drexler Vater (Nordy) of Charlotte, NC. Connie’s life was always centered around family. Through the years, she and “Jer” enjoyed many trips to Charlotte, NC to be with Kim, Nordy and their grandchildren. They shared countless treasured vacations together. For the last 16 years, Matthews, NC, has been her home. We will cherish the wonderful times spent together and hold on to our many happy memories. She is survived by her loving daughter, Kim Drexler Vater and her husband, Nordy Vater of Charlotte, NC, 2 cherished grandchildren: Lauren (Michael) Phipps, Adam (Sasha) Vater, and 3 adored great grand children: Ellis and Claire Phipps and Tide Vater. Connie is also survived by her brother, Jim Ickes of Elyria, OH and her sister in law, Myrt Drexler Shay, of Moon Twp as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald (Jerry) Drexler. 

There will be no formal service; the family plans a private celebration. At a later date, they will host a celebration of her life in the Pittsburgh area.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, caregivers and medical teams of the Briar Creek Health Center at the Barclay (4th floor), to her special caregiver, Teresa Moore, and also to the Liberty Hospice staff for their constant support and compassion.
