David Ross Wilson
July 9, 1930 — May 19, 2026
David Ross Wilson, 95, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026 after a valiant battle with Parkinson’s Disease. His loving wife and daughters were at his side as was one of his wonderful caregivers.
David is survived by his faithful wife of 66 years, Miriam Hinson Wilson of Charlotte, daughter Roxanne Wilson of Morrisville, and daughter Marianne Chaney and husband Chris of Charlotte. He was Papa to four grandchildren: Rachel Badgley (Ben), Sarah Cambon (Jesse), Christopher Chaney, and Marlon Wilson, and four great-grandchildren: Emma Badgley, Luke Badgley, Leah Badgley, and Sophia Cambon. David is also survived by his sister Lorinna Lowrance of Charlotte. He had 2 nephews: Joe Lowrance Jr. and Travis Hinson and 2 nieces: Jane Simpson and Sarah Hinson. He was preceded in death by his parents James T. Wilson and Annie Alexander Wilson and brothers in law: Joe Lowrance Sr. and Jim Hinson.
David was born on 7/09/1930 in Charlotte. He was a Boy Scout where he enjoyed the activities and camaraderie. He was serious about living out the Boy Scout Oath and later taught it to his oldest daughter upon request. He graduated from Oakhurst High School where he played baseball. He earned an AA degree from Charlotte College (now UNCC).David proudly served with honor as a sergeant in the US Army 82nd Airborne during the Korean War.
David enjoyed his 37 year career in the U.S. Postal service, first as letter carrier back when they walked their routes and knew their customers, and later as a supervisor. Upon retirement he joined the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and often served as treasurer.
David enjoyed gardening and his gardens were prolific with vegetables which he shared generously. He planted apple trees, pear trees, plum trees, and blueberry bushes. He enjoyed playing golf and after retiring he was part of two regular weekly golf groups. With his wife he enjoyed traveling and playing bridge with a couples club of longtime friends. David and Miriam took up square dancing when they became empty nesters and joined a club and visited others frequently, costumes and all.
David served faithfully in many volunteer roles over many years first as a member of Grace United Methodist Church and later as a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church.
David was a kind, patient, generous, gentle, honorable family man who adored his wife, children, and all of his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling or hearing stories. Everyone was drawn to his light and he had many lifelong friends and made new friends to the end. David loved just about everybody and everyone said he was a really nice person. He loved deeply and showed it through acts of service. We never heard him say a bad word about anybody or any group, nor did we hear anyone ever say a bad word about him.
