Edward (“Ed”) McCoy Jr.

December 23, 1952 — April 20, 2026

Edward (“Ed”) Hill McCoy Jr. passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 23, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Edward Hill McCoy and Millicent Rykert McCoy. He spent most of his childhood in New York before relocating with his family to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1966.

Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He shared 48 loving years of marriage with his wife, Cynthia Christiani McCoy, who survives him. Together, they built a strong and enduring family. He is also survived by his two sons, Edward (“Trip”) Hill McCoy III (Angela) and Michael Steven McCoy (Savannah). He was a proud and cherished grandfather to Declan and Connor McCoy (sons of Trip), and Blake and Luke McCoy (children of Michael), who brought him immense joy.

Ed is also survived by his sister, Laurie McCoy Garner, his niece, Therese (“Teri”) Garner (Charles Pettigrew), and his great-niece and great-nephew, Bo and Mack Pettigrew. His brother-in-law, John Alvin Garner, preceded him in death.

Ed built an accomplished career as an electrical general superintendent with Crowder Construction, where he was respected for his dedication and expertise. Outside of work, he was an automotive enthusiast, an avid reader, and a passionate lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and Carolina Panthers.

Ed will be fondly remembered by those close to him for his bold voice, quick wit, strong presence, and commitment to his family. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply.

A private family service in remembrance and celebration of Ed’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ed to the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
