Hildegunde Piossek Struckmeyer

Hildegunde Struckmeyer passed away peacefully at her home in Charlotte, NC on December 7, 2018. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Sascha and Angela Struckmeyer, her grandkids, Christian, Will and Ben, her ex-husband Horst and her granddogs, Shay, Pippy, Kasey, Marble A. May and Hermey. Gundi, as she was known, was born Hildegunde Piossek on July 15, 1938 in Ringelheim, Germany as the youngest of five children. She is preceded by her parents, Sofie and Bernhard Piossek and her siblings, Heli, Erika, Willi, and Otto. She came to the United States in January 1963 and settled in the Washington, D.C. area where she lived until moving to Charlotte in 2017 to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law, grandkids and granddogs. She led a full life travelling the world and raising a family during her younger years and then focusing her energy on her extended family, especially her grandkids later in life. Gundi will be missed terribly. She touched so many in her life with her warmth, kindness and genuine care for others. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm Monday, December 17, 2018 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 PM and a reception from 3:30 – 5:00 pm. Special thanks go to all the wonderful people that helped provide care and comfort to Gundi including Senior Retreat and Charlotte Hospice and Palliative Care.
