Larry Helman Larry Helman, age 77 of Charlotte, NC died on Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Mr. Helman was born in Newark, NJ the son of the late Harry Helman and Pearl Kramer Helman. Larry graduated from McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio in 1951. After graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force where he served in the Korean War as a teletype operator in ground communications. After his service in the Air Force he returned home and trained to become a dog groomer in Columbus, Ohio. He moved to Charlotte, NC in 1978 and opened his own business, Larry?s Pet Grooming, which has remained open for the past thirty years. Larry was the proud owner of a customized 1980 Pontiac Firebird in ?Carousel Red?. He enjoyed showing his vehicle at various area auto shows. This car was his pride and joy. During his younger years he enjoyed oil painting. Larry also enjoyed entertaining people and hosting many memorable parties. He will be remembered most for his generosity and kindness of heart. Larry is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Barbara L. Reinhart Helman of Charlotte, NC; a son Steven M. Helman of Charlotte, NC; a daughter Shari H. Miller of Belmont, NC. He is the adored grandfather of Sean S. Helman and Casey N. Miller. Larry is also survived by his mother-in-law Gertrude Reinhart of Canton, Ohio. Graveside services were held Thursday, October 1st, 2009, at the Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28206. Contributions in Larry?s memory may be made to R.H.A. Howell Inc. 3738 Howell Day Care Road, LaGrange, NC 28551; or to Temple Beth El Synagogue 5105 Providence road, Charlotte, NC 28226 or to the Charity of the donor?s choice.
