Larry Wayne Shank
Larry Wayne Shank, 70, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be at Hankins and Whittington, 1111 East Blvd. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011 from 6pm to 8pm. There will be a graveside service Thursday, Oct 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Presbyterian Church, Hwy 215 North, Salem Crossroads, SC with the Reverend Richard Hodges officiating.
Born on January 31, 1941 in Stanley County, he was the son of the late Thomas C. and Alice H. Shank. He attended Endy High School in Albemarle, NC. Larry served in the United States Marine Corp. for 4 years and was with the Charlotte Police Department for 26 years. He did some private investigation work for a few years after retiring in 1988. He was a member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. Larry loved Panthers football, NASCAR Racing, and the Atlanta Braves.
Larry is survived by his wife of 33 years, Hester Yongue Shank, a son, Larry Shane Shank and one granddaughter, Annabelle C. Shank, all of Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Larry was loved by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He truly was a man with a loving and generous heart. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital, Post Office Box 1000 (Dept142), Memphis, Tennessee 38148-0142.
