Michael Edward Honeycutt

Mar 25, 1970 — Apr 7, 2026

Michael Edward Honeycutt of Castle Hayne, NC, passed away on April 7, 2026 at the age of 56 from complications related to COPD and congestive heart failure. He was with his mother at her home in Charlotte NC when he passed.

Michael was born on March 25, 1970 to Nancy Honeycutt Buchanan and the late Willis Boyce Honeycutt. He is survived by his three children Elizabeth Honeycutt (and fiancé Mark Thies) of Castle Hayne NC, Olivia Honeycutt of Asheville NC, and Michael James Honeycutt of Castle Hayne NC. He is also survived by his mother, Nancy Buchanan, brother and sister-in-law John and Emily Honeycutt, of Raleigh NC and brother Thomas Honeycutt of Charlotte NC. He was preceded in death by his beloved step-father, Jim Buchanan, in the fall of 2024.

Michael grew up in Charlotte and moved to Wilmington to go to Cape Fear Community College while also working as a cook at the Bridge Tender restaurant. While in Wilmington, he met his former wife, Kristen Halls, and started a family. As soon as he learned that his first born baby was on the way, he got into contract work and later trained as a specialist in mold remediation. He and his mother, Nancy, eventually created a business for his contracting work called Honeycutt & Buchanan Properties. He continued working hard until his body decided that it was time to rest.

Michael loved being a father, did as many activities as he could with his children, and coached Olivia’s travel softball team. He enjoyed life and was well-liked by everyone he met.

Michael will be greatly missed and remembered as a man with a loud laugh, a big heart, and someone who was always willing to give anything he could to those he loved.
