Nina Wagner Graves of Cary, North Carolina died January 24, 2019. She was born June 10, 1939 to the late Carl and Odessa Wagner. She was a graduate of Meredith College and had a fulfilling career as a teacher in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system. During those years, she earned her Master’s degree from UNC-Charlotte.
Nina was known for her love of children and also for her warmth and kindness. Each child was special to her and she made sure that all of her kids had a chance to excel with their individual strengths.
Raised at First Baptist Church of Charlotte, Nina later in life became a devoted member of Assurance United Methodist Church. She served her Charlotte community for many years as a Stephen Minister. Most recently, she became a member of the Brewer-Johnson Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Raleigh after moving closer to her son.
Nina is survived by her son, Tyson and his wife Ginger, grandson Zachary Graves and his wife Rachel, her brother Carl Wagner and sister Martha Wagner. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and a nephew.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Assurance United Methodist Church Missions and Ministry Budget, 9700 Mt. Holly Huntersville Road, Huntersville, NC 28078.
Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Hankins & Whittington Chapel, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 with the service following at 11:00 AM with Dr. Mary Alice Seals officiating. Serving as Pallbearers are Zachary Graves, Carl Wagner, Jr., Chet Wagner, Hannis Thompson, III, David Broach and Drew Frelund. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Ave., Charlotte, NC 28205.
