Rubye Ingle Jackson

On August 3, 2019 Rubye Ingle Jackson passed away from complications of Lewy Body Dementia. Rubye was born on April 13, 1925 as the only daughter of Lock O. and Libby Sweet Ingle in Denver, North Carolina. Rubye graduated from Rock Springs High School and King’s College in Charlotte with a degree in Accounting and Business Management. After graduating from King’s College Rubye worked in the Commercial Accounts Department with Esso (Standard Oil/Exxon). Rubye was one of the first women hired as a department manager. On May 5, 1956 at Belmont Abbey, Rubye married the love of her life, Garland Louis Jackson, Sr. A year later they welcomed daughter Susan and two years later son Garland (Gar). Rubye devoted her life to her family. As one of the original residents of the Windsor Park neighborhood, Rubye was active in her children’s school, garden club, and always available for anyone in need. Friends always knew Rubye was just one phone call away. In 1976, Rubye was recognized by the Charlotte Observer as a Volunteer of the Year for her work at Mercy Hospital. Rubye helped open the surgical waiting room at Mercy Hospital on Vail Avenue. She sat with families during the most difficult times of their lives and helped them understand the process of pre-op, surgery, and the recovery room. Among other endeavors she was chosen as a Precinct Judge for the Mecklenburg Board of Elections. Rubye is survived by her daughter Susan L. Jackson, son Garland L. Jackson Jr, and his wife Cathie, grandson Jackson Daisley, and granddaughters Grace, Bethany, and Ella Jackson. Rubye was preceded in death by her husband Garland Sr., her parents, and her brother Jack. Susan and Garland would like to thank Amy Flowe, Brittany, and Deborah from Hospice of Union County for the care they gave Rubye and the family the last weeks of her life. Graveside services for Rubye will be held at 10:30 on the morning of September 21, 2019 at Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Avenue, Charlotte, North Carolina. The Reverend Deb Blackwood, PhD, will be officiating. As were the wishes of her mother, Rubye did not want black or dark colors worn to her funeral. A reception to follow at Susan’s residence. It was Rubye’s fondest hope that memorials be made in her memory to Holy Angels.
