Stanley Joseph Christenbury

Stanley Joseph ‘Joe’ Christenbury passed away March 1, 2023, into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Joe was born Oct 22, 1944 in Charlotte, NC, and was the son of the late Stanley Christenbury and Iris Hodges. After graduating from Harding High School, he spent the next 40 years working for Grinnell Fire Protection, retiring in 2001. In addition, he served in the Army National Guard from 1964-1970. Joe was a member of Providence Baptist Church for 50 years. During this time, he served as a Deacon, a Sunday morning greeter and as a van driver for the after-school tutoring program. Joe was an avid sports fan and loved everything baseball, basketball and especially golf with friends at Carolina Golf and Country Club, Pine Lake Country Club, Larkhaven Golf Club and Charlotte National Golf Club. He spent many years coaching at Myers Park Trinity Little League and Trinity Pop Warner Football. His greatest joy, however, came from time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was a loving father and, ‘Grandad’ and always put family first.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Elaine; son Jeff (Amy); daughter Julie Smith (Daryl) of Charlotte NC; grandchildren Hayes Christenbury, Grace Christenbury, Walker Smith, Mary Claire Smith; sisters Vickie Huntley (Ben), Vivian Ouimet (Roger), Bonnie Overman; Elaine’s children and grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, Mary Breen Christenbury and grandson, Grier Martin Christenbury.
There will be a private graveside service held for family on Saturday, March 18 at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte NC. A memorial Service will be held at 10:30 in the morning on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Providence Baptist Church on Randolph Road in Charlotte followed by a visitation.
