Bill Carras passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 16, 2017.
Bill was born on August 23, 1932 in Pulaski, Virginia to the late Mr. Constantinos N. Carras of Limerie Karpanisie, Greece and Mrs. Georgia Tselios Carras of Nemer Corinth Greece. He was the baby of 6 children. They moved to Charlotte in 1952 and helped start the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
Bill is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Jane Frye Carras, his son, William Donald Carras, his brothers Nick Gus Carras, Jim Gus Carras and sister Helen Holland Carras and Angeline Gianopulos.
He is survived by his daughters Georgia Leigh Carras, Angela Carras Mann, and his son William Justin Carras, granddaughters Karis Jane Mann and Sara Elizabeth Juneau and great granddaughter Taylor Adele Barbee and brother George Gus Carras. He is also survived by Richard Mann.
Bill was dearly loved by his family and he dearly loved his family, he would do anything he could for them. He was hilarious and was a fantastic golfer who loved spending time on the Eastwood golf course. He once had the pleasure of playing golf with singer Willie Nelson.
Bill was an excellent cook, pool shark and poker player and loved to fish.
He graduated from Harding High School where he was on the basketball team. He and his brothers owned a restaurant in downtown Charlotte named the "Olympic." He later went into the real estate business with his brother George and owned Carras Realty.
For many years he was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the order of Ahepa.
He loved dogs, all kinds of sweets, anything chocolate, cherries and especially Angela's lemon cake.
Bill served in the Army during the Korean War and became a Sargent at the young age of 21.
Funeral services for Bill will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow immediately at Evergreen City Cemetery (Section 4), 4426 Central Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205.
Contributions in Bill's memory may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region or Dementia Society of America.
