Alice R. Tabera
March 30, 1937 — November 10, 2012
Alice R. (Rozin) Tabera was called to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 10, 2012. She was 75 years young and beautiful. Alice was born in Sanger, CA on March 30, 1937 to Victor and Evelyn (Banderas) Rivera. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Felipe Tabera, her son Rodrick (Rod) Rozin, her brother Victor Rivera Jr., and her sister Rosie Rivera.
Alice is survived by her children, loved ones and stepchildren: R. Richard Romendia, Kenneth (Kenny) and Lydia Rozin, Walter (Wally) Rozin and Emily Proa-Flores, Suzanne (Suzie Rozin) and David Contreras, and Michele (Garcia) DiMaggio and Mark Robbins, Mitchell and Christine Tabera, Phillip Tabera, and Delores Tabera.
She was a very proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Rodrick Rozin II, Walter Rozin , Kenneth Rozin Jr., Michael Rozin, Roman Rozin, Alicia (Contreras) Vidana, and Angelina Contreras and adored her 12 great-grandchildren.
Alice was the second oldest of her siblings and a cherished Matriarch to her surviving sisters and brothers: Mary (Maria) Rivera, Gilbert Rivera, Irene Valverde, Helen Uribe, Rodolfo Rivera, and Arthur Rivera. The family would like to thank Maria (Mary) Garza who is a true friend and aided her during her time of need.
Alice was a young mother at 17 and zealously went after her dreams and aspirations. In the 1970’s, she was the first Hispanic woman to run for Salinas City Council and become Director of Trucha Inc. for the City of Salinas. She volunteered her time at Soledad Prison to teach and prepare inmates for life after incarceration.
She and her husband, Felipe Tabera, owned and operated Tabera’s Originales into the 1980’s. In the mid-1980’s, Alice and her sister Rosie, owned and operated Don Felipe’s Authentic Mexican Food Restaurant for 15 years. Alice and Felipe retired to their ranch in King City where she worked part-time as a crossing guard for Santa Lucia Elementary School, yard duty aid at San Lorenzo Middle School, and salesperson at True Value Hardware.
In her final days, Alice was very happy and comfortable in her Salinas home with her two Chihuahuas, "Lola" and "Brutus" and her cat, " Cali".
Alice will be wholeheartedly missed by all her family, friends, and those who knew her.
