Arthur Leon Thompson

Nov 5, 1937 — Jun 19, 2026

Arthur Leon Thompson, 88, of Salinas, California, passed away peacefully at home on June 19, 2026. Despite his brave battle with dementia, his life was filled with purpose, love, and devotion, especially through the dedication of his wife, Ramona.

Known to many as "Leon," he leaves behind a legacy of love and music. His boundless wisdom, infectious laughter, and remarkable life will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He inspired generations through music, leaving an enduring mark on Monterey County's music scene.

Born on November 5, 1937, Leon's love for music was nurtured from a young age as he shared treasured moments with his brother, O.J., and his mother, Audrey. As a young adult, he formed his own bands, filling the family home with music, family, and friends. Alongside three of his four children, he performed as part of "The Thompsons," proudly wearing their signature blue shirts as they played music together.

Leon served his country in the United States Navy. Shortly afterward, he met the love of his life, Jean Thompson.

Leon was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean; his mother, Audrey; his three brothers, O.J. and twins Billy and Bobby; his daughter, Ronda; his son, Robby; and his granddaughter, Shian.

He is survived by his daughter, Sonja of Riverside County; his son, A.L. of Salinas; his grandchildren,

Elizabeth, David, Ronnie, Jason, Jeff, Tyler, Art III, Austin, Justin, Cody, Dustin, and Christopher; and his great-grandchildren, Taylor, Travis, Trace, Ezra, Stormy, Little David, Kaden, Gavin, Art IV, Shian, Stetson, Stevie Ray, Amelia, Penelope, Kinsley, and Jayce.

A celebration of life will be held in September, with more details to be announced soon.
