Michael Mike Dowden

Sep 11, 1957 — Apr 11, 2026

Michael “Mike” Dowden, 68, a kind and loving father, proud Marine veteran, and lifelong sports enthusiast, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the Watsonville Nursing Center following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Santa Cruz on September 11, 1957, to Charles L. Dowden and Patricia Simmons, Mike grew up with the Monterey Bay as his backyard. After attending Harbor High, he answered the call to service, joining the U.S. Marine Corps. As a "Devil Dog" with the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, Mike served honorably as a Rifleman and Marksmanship Instructor. His sharp eye earned him both the Rifle Sharpshooter and Pistol Expert badges, skills he utilized while deployed to the Philippines during a period of significant regional tension.

Returning home, Mike spent many years as a dedicated technician with Cardiff Pest Control. It was during these years that he started a family with Christine Williams, welcoming his daughter Brittany in 1986 and son Matthew in 1990.

His children will forever cherish the memories of a father who found peace in nature. They fondly recall endless days at the beach—swimming until their lips turned blue and "burying" far too many Thomas the Train toys in the sand—and the quiet joy of packing picnic lunches for hikes to the "Top of the World."

An unwavering Raiders fan, Mike’s Sundays were often defined by the Silver and Black. Whether he was on the golf course in his younger years, cheering at an Oakland A’s game with his brother Max, or catching the latest NASCAR race, Mike’s passion for the game was infectious.

Mike is survived by his children, Brittany Dowden (and husband Kurt Edwards) of Groveland and Matthew Dowden of Madera; his brother, Max Dowden of Tucson Arizona; sister, Patti Thurman of Redding; and his beloved grandson, Axel Edwards. He was preceded in death by his brother John and sister Adelma Dowden.

A committal service with military honors will be held at the Central Coast Veterans Cemetery in Seaside on April 27th, 2026, at 11:00 am. Flowers may be sent to the Central Coast Veterans Cemetery, 2900 Parker Flats Rd Seaside, CA, 93955
