Paul Civin
Paul’s sense of humor guided his life. He was telling jokes until he couldn’t. And any written communication was always in humorous rhyming form. He made poems out of everyday events, life, or the moment. A true wordsmith, he always found poetry in everything.
He loved language. He studied at UCLA and carried it to the Masters level. He was a teacher of foreign languages at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. He spoke many of them.
His true love and passion was as a certified ski instructor at the family friendly Dodge Ridge Ski Area in the eastern Sierras. Voted ski instructor of the year, so many asked for him by name, especially parents with little kids for he had kindness in his heart and the patience of Job. He was often rewarded with tips accompanied by a big smile and a warm thank you.
When he wasn’t skiing, he enjoyed taking fun motorcycle trips with his friends.
Paul is loved by his mom Dagmar in Los Angeles, brother Tom and his wife Lynne in Wyoming, nephew Andy with his wife Lindsay and their daughter Skylar in Cotati, nephew Joey in Portland, and cousins Tomas, Lubor, and Ondra. Also by his best friend Petr, countless other friends, and pretty much everyone who was lucky enough to meet him.
