Roy Gutierrez

Roy Gutierrez, 63, passed away on January 15, 2013, peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was a sweet and gentle loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend whose sense of humor and jovial personality was greatly adored by many. Roy was born on January 14, 1950 in Edinburg, TX and lived the majority of his life in Salinas, CA. He proudly displayed his patriotism and enlisted with the United States Army in 1970, dutifully serving a tour in the Vietnam War. He began his 30 year career at Correctional Training Facility, Soledad Prison in 1974 starting as a Correctional Officer, and retiring in 2004 as a Correctional Lieutenant. Roy especially loved spending time with his family whether at home or on vacation. His avid love of nature and wildlife inspired Roy’s creativity for his passion to create art in various mediums specifically photography, sculpting, and painting. A loyal 49er fan and boxing enthusiast, Roy enjoyed a wide array of hobbies. He loved searching for hidden treasures with his metal detector, sifting for gold, or being in Vegas playing craps or catching a good boxing match where he also met many of his favorite boxers. Roy was also a gourmet cook and also found time to enjoy his love of playing the guitar. He was such a beautiful soul and was loved so much. His spirit will forever remain in our hearts and he will be missed every day by all who were blessed to be a part of his life. Roy is preceded in death by his mother Santos and brother Miguel Gutierrez. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Gutierrez; Daughters Tiffany Gutierrez and Natalie (Gavin) Dickson; Grandson Ethan Dickson; Father Mike Gutierrez; and his siblings Nena (Leonard) Ramirez, Angie (Johnny) Cross, Danny (Tina) Gutierrez, and Irene Gutierrez; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, Janaury 20, 2013 from 1 to 9 p.m., with a Rosary recital at 6 p.m., all at the Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas, CA 93905. A Funeral Mass will take place Monday, January 21, 2013 at 10 a.m., at Madonna del Sasso Catholic Church, 320 E. Laurel Dr., Salinas, CA 93906. Burial to follow with full Military Honors at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93907.
