Viola Rubio

Viola Rubio, 89 of Salinas, passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2026, with her children by her bedside. She was born on September 12, 1936, in Del Norte, Colorado, to Tobias and Flora Trujillo. Viola spent her early years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, later residing in San Francisco before making her permanent home in Salinas, California.

For more than three decades, Viola devoted her professional life to the care and well-being of children as a child care provider with Children Services International, retiring in 2017. She was a proud and active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 589, where she contributed her time and compassion to numerous community efforts. Her dedication to service and unwavering generosity touched the lives of many.

Viola found great joy in cooking, traveling, dancing, and hosting family gatherings, where her warmth and hospitality were always felt. She had a deep affection for animals and took tremendous pride in caring for her many beloved pets. Her kindness, strength, and gentle spirit were evident to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert Rubio; her granddaughter, Delena Aguirre Ramirez; and her son, Arnold Trujillo.

Viola is survived by her daughters Valerie Cienega, Margaret Rubio, Gina Rubio, Rosemary Paz, and Brigit Rubio; her sons, Jaime Castaneda, Michael Trujillo; as well as 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 16, nieces, and 12 nephews.

Viola's legacy of love, service, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Burial services will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026 at 1pm at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
