Timothy Joe Martin
March 15, 1950 — June 17, 2025
Timothy Joe "Tim" Martin of Ocala, FL, died on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the age of 75. Devoted husband of Susan (Berg) Martin and only son of the late Marvin and Mabel Martin. Tim was a former husband to Susan (nee Dusthimer) Osborne; proud father of Jennifer (Tim) Fischer and Matthew (Lisa) Martin from his first marriage; stepfather to Colleen (Kenny) Kassinger and Kyle (Bonnie) Berg; grandfather to Wyatt and Maxwell Fischer, Liam and Estelle Martin, Cody, Tori, and Robert Smith, Alexandria Kassinger, and Jessie Berg; and great grandfather to Emersynn Smith.
Tim grew up in McHenry, Illinois, where he attended McHenry High School. He was notably voted "Most Co-Operative" during his senior year, served as quarterback of the football team, and captained the basketball team during what he called a "perfect season" in 1968, when the team lost every single game.
Tim attended Eastern Illinois University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. During his collegiate years, Tim was an active member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Tim settled back in McHenry with his first wife, Sue, after their marriage in 1972. There, he worked at Jessup Manufacturing and spent his free time at McHenry Country Club. Tim proudly won the club championship a handful of times, gladly partnered with Matthew in annual Father-Son tournaments and scored an elusive hole in one and taught his children an array of dice games in the clubhouse bar.
He also enjoyed time on the Chain o' Lakes with his friends and family, often spending weekends on the boat and taking late night rides to Pistakee Bay for "refreshing" dips in the water that left everyone's teeth chattering. That appreciation for boating went with Tim as he moved his family to Lake Ozark, Missouri, in 1994. There, he continued to serve as boat captain and sport his signature wind-blown "Howdy Doody" hairstyle in between rounds on the golf course with friends and time spent working in insurance sales
After the end of his first marriage in 2000, Tim found love again with Susan (nee Kurtz) Berg. They married in 2001 and settled in Ocala, Florida, where they spent 24 happy years together. Beyond his work helping people make the most of their retirement years through thoughtful insurance and investment options, Tim loved writing poems for Susan, golfing together, exploring theme parks with their blended family, cheering on the Gators (unless Mizzou came to town), and playing with their dog Molly Martin.
Throughout his life, Tim was known for always having a good story, a broad smile, an easy laugh and helping hands. He loved sweet treats, often encouraging people to indulge in a second helping of dessert. He was a grill master who could rearrange hot coals with his bare hands, a pancake-making pro who always distributed the blueberries just right, a thoughtful advisor, a theater lover, a fantastic hugger, a minor mischief maker, a road trip snack master, and an easygoing friend whenever you needed one. He will be greatly missed.
Memorial donations may be made in Tim's name to PGA Tour of American Reach Foundation.
