Fredrick Arthur Haerter Sr.

Apr 18, 1941 — Apr 12, 2026

Our family is deeply saddened to share that Frederick Arthur Haerter Sr., 84, passed away on April 12, 2026. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 18, 1941, he was the steady, gentle heart of our family — a man who led with quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a deep sense of duty.   After graduating from Marquette University, he entered the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant and Combat Engineer Platoon Leader, proudly earning his paratrooper wings before serving on active duty in Europe and Turkey. He later continued his service in the U.S. Army Reserve, rising to the rank of Colonel and serving as a Brigade Commander.   He went on to earn his master's degree from Hamline University and build a meaningful career as a civil engineer, serving the communities of Milwaukee, Muskego, Portage, Marshfield, River Falls, Kenosha, and Caledonia. As City Engineer and Director of Public Works, he helped shape the places where countless families live, work, and grow.   In 1969, he married Carol Ann (Nitz) of Markesan, Wisconsin, beginning a partnership that lasted more than fifty years. Together, they shared a love of adventure and spent many joyful years traveling the world. Whether cruising or joining travel groups, they explored Europe, South America, Australia, Asia, and the Caribbean — experiences that brought them closer and filled their lives with stories, laughter, and unforgettable memories.   In 2013, they moved to The Villages, Florida, where he enjoyed warm weather, good friends, and many rounds of golf — a game he played well and loved deeply. During his years as a Villager, he embraced the community with enthusiasm. He was active in the World War II History Club, proudly served as an Honor Flight escort, and played harmonica with local Harmonica Clubs. A skilled Sheepshead card shark, he never missed a chance to join a good game. He attended every classic car show he could find, enjoyed Friday night dinners with a close‑knit dining group, and treasured the regular Grantham Terrace gatherings, where neighbors met for drinks, conversation, and dinner afterward. These friendships and routines brought him joy, purpose, and a deep sense of belonging.   He was a loyal Packers and Brewers fan, a devoted dog dad for 50 years to several Weimaraners, and a passionate collector of classic cars. He loved attending car shows, swapping stories with fellow enthusiasts, and constantly expanding his knowledge of cars and automotive history.   He leaves behind his wife, Carol Ann; their sons, Rick and Ben; and his cherished grandchildren — Emily, Evan, Brooke, and Hayden — along with all who loved him.
