John Francis Welch
Sep 29, 1940 — Dec 9, 2025
John Francis Welch, 85, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, surrounded by the memories of a full and meaningful life.
John was born on September 29, 1940, in Mechanicville, New York, where he was raised. He graduated from Georgetown University in 1962 and went on to earn his law degree from Albany Law School in 1967. John began his legal career practicing law in New York.
After meeting Margaret “Peggy” Ewan of Ocala, Florida, the two were married and soon decided to make their home in Ocala, where Peggy was born and raised. They relocated there in 1968, and John established a long and respected legal career serving the Ocala community. He practiced law in Ocala for more than five decades and was known for his dedication to his profession and his clients.
John was deeply involved in the community and was a longtime member of the Ocala Elks Club, the Ocala Lions Club, and several other service organizations.
Peggy passed away in 1991. In later years, John met Wendy K. Welch, whom he married. Together they enjoyed traveling and their shared love for animals. Wendy preceded John in death, passing away on August 7, 2019.
John’s wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest beside Wendy at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in West Jacksonport, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Hospice of Marion County or the Marion County Humane Society.
John will be remembered as a devoted father, a proud grandfather, a trusted attorney, and a loyal friend. John is survived by his sons, Christopher Welch of Ocala and Gavin Welch of Lakeland, and his grandchildren, Aubrey Welch, Ezekiel Welch, and Hope Welch.
