Edward Thomas Fisher
January 27, 1939 — April 2, 2026
EDWARD T. FISHER
Edward Thomas Fisher died Thursday, April 2, at the age of 87 at The Villages Hospice House. Ed was born in Detroit, Mich., on Jan. 27, 1939, to William and Loretta Fisher and was a loving older brother to Dennis, who preceded him in death.
Ed was drawn to sports early in life. He was a gifted athlete and had a special ease with nearly any game he played, but baseball was his first love. His hoped-for career with the Detroit Tigers didn’t pan out, but he often said he was grateful it didn’t. If it had, he said, he wouldn’t have met the love of his life, Rogene. Together, Ed and Rogene raised four children, and Ed made a career for himself as a barber. Whether it was playing baseball as a young man, coaching his sons in hockey, chatting with his customers at the shop or the decades he spent golfing with friends and his wife, sports was often the way Ed connected with others.
Ed and Rogene enjoyed more than 25 years of retirement together in The Villages. He loved his time here, and often said, “If you can’t be happy here, you can’t be happy anywhere.”
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Rogene; his daughter Denise Shirey (John); his sons, William and Daniel; and his daughter Rogene Jacquette (Lawrence). He is also survived by four grandchildren Rachel Fulton, Nathan Fisher, Nicholas Shirey and Claire Jacquette. All of them were great sources of joy for him.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 6, from Noon until 2 p.m. at the Hiers-Baxley Buffalo Ridge.
