The Villages, Florida – Colonel Fred Geier, USMC (Retired), age 76, of The Villages, Florida, passed away on June 20, 2026. He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1949. He married the former Jeannine Lasser in 1971 and enjoyed 54 years of marriage until his passing.

Fred attended Argo Community High School in Argo, IL and graduated Western Illinois University in 1971 with a major in Industrial Technology, 1971 was a big year in Fred’s life as he graduated, was married in July and started life in the Marine Corps in September. Fred and Jean had met earlier while both attending Western Illinois University. What started out as “just going to college,” ended up in a wonderful lifelong commitment. The Marine Corps sculpted their lives as they traveled from state to state. It was during their tour in North Carolina that their daughter, Christine Renee Geier was born. In the Marine Corps, Fred served as an officer and helicopter pilot for 27 years, retiring as a Colonel in 1998. As a Marine, he served around the world, including flying and commanding a fleet helicopter squadron and eventually commanding Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), where he flew two different U.S. Presidents. His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy Commendation Medal, and the Presidential Service Badge. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he worked at Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation on the S-92 development program and later as the Program Manager of the VH Presidential Program. After retiring from Sikorsky in 2003, he continued consulting for Sikorsky for two years. Fred consulted for CAE USA, Tampa for nine years before fully retiring in 2016. In retirement Fred enjoyed travelling and golfing with his wife and friends. He also enjoyed playing cards with his wife and friends and was a member of the Marine Corps League, the American Legion, the Baby Boomers club and 2nd Honeymoon club. His hidden passion for growing orchids and Hawaiian flowers was often unknown even to his friends.

Fred has been a resident of The Villages for 23 years. He is survived by Jean, his loving and steadfast wife of 54 years, his daughter, Christine (Ed) Paul and two grandchildren, Dylan and Maelle.

Fred’s sisters, Kathy Kristie, Pam Frederiksen, and Kim (Jack) Hartley also survive Fred.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Irene Geier.
