Marcia Ruth Sondergaard
May 6, 1934 — October 22, 2025
Marcia Sondergaard, age 91, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages, FL.
Born in East Haven, CT, Marcia was a proud graduate of New Haven State Teachers College, now known as Southern Connecticut State University. She dedicated her career to educating young minds as an elementary school teacher in Connecticut, where she inspired countless students with her patience, kindness, and love of learning.
In 2002, Marcia and her beloved husband Henry, retired to the Villages, FL, where she established many friends in her neighborhood of Woodbury and at the Springdale pool. She was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church and loved singing in the choir. Marcia loved crafting and was passionate about helping others. After learning of a group making teddy bears for patients undergoing cancer treatment, she brought this idea to her group of crafters at Hope Lutheran Church. Together they created 100’s of teddy bears that were donated to patients with cancer. Her efforts brought hope and comfort to many.
Marcia was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Henry, in 2013. She is survived by two children, Lisa Sabia and her husband Brian, and Robert Sondergaard and his wife Beth; as well as two cherished granddaughters Kirsten and Jenna Sabia. Services and burial will be held at a future date. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Buffalo Crossings, The Villages Hospital, and Cornerstone Hospice for their compassionate care and support of Marcia over the past few months. Donations can be made to Hope Lutheran Church, Cornerstone Hospice or a charity of your choosing.
