**Obituary for John “JS” Samuel Woodard, Sr.** John “JS” Samuel Woodard, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, in Auburndale, Florida, at the age of 87. Born on October 6, 1937, in Eagle Lake, Florida, JS was a lifelong resident of the area who cherished his family and the simple joys of life. JS was married to Lucille “Lucy” Woodard for an incredible 68 years. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter. He is survived by his children, Marletta (Skeeter) Hicks, Sonja Sheffield, and John Woodard Jr., along with grandchildren Jason Woodard, Amanda Green, Benjamin May, and Melissa Meredith. He was also proud to be a grandfather to seven great-grandchildren: Dylan, Logan, Tucker, Tyler, Taylor, Brantley, and Audrey. JS was preceded in death by his parents, John Ivey Woodard and Maude Woodard, as well as his brothers Robert and Charles, and sisters Dorothy, Josephine, Pauline, Ruth, Jennie, Jessie Lee. In a poignant turn of fate, JS passed away just five hours before his last surviving sibling, Helen, fulfilling what Helen believed God had promised—that they would go home together. As a painter by trade, JS was known for his hardworking nature and dedication to his craft. His creative spirit extended beyond his work; he was a man who found happiness in the little things. Whether it was fishing, gardening, or tinkering with motors, he devoted his time to the hobbies he loved. His generous and kind-hearted personality earned him the admiration of all who knew him. JS was not only a devoted family man but also a man of faith. He shared a profound love for God and embraced every moment with a sense of humor. Known for his playful pranks, he brought joy and laughter to family gatherings. His easy-going demeanor perfectly balanced the spirited personality of his sister Helen, a relationship characterized by mutual affection and understanding. A viewing will be held on May 16, 2025, at 1 PM at Kersey Funeral Home, 108 Lake Stella Dr., Auburndale, Florida, followed by a graveside service at 2 PM at Auburndale Memorial Park, 1889 W. Derby Ave., Auburndale, Florida. JS’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and faith. He will be profoundly missed by his family and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace.
