Olowan Peji-Skye Blackbear
September 16, 1998-May 9, 2025
Olowan Skye Blackbear, 26, passed on May 9, 2025, in Tacoma, Washington. Born September 16, 1998, in Tacoma, Washington, Olowan grew up in Auburn, Washington, Kent, Washington, and Oregon State.
Olowan was an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe and a descendant of the Blackfeet, Puyallup, and Yakama Tribes.
A devoted son and brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, Olowan cherished his family and friends. He is the son of Schyler Blackbear and Ramona Bridgette Upham, and the brother of the siblings.
Wiyaka, Wocekiya, and Canupa Blackbear, and W’ynema and Larry Upham. He is survived by his siblings, his mother and father, Grandmother Darla Mae Blackbear, Uncle Wesley Blackbear, and aunts Leslie and Andrea Blackbear. The surviving family also includes many loving cousins and other relatives. The family would like to thank Feanette, Cheri, Latoya, and Tate Blackbear for their support.
Olowan graduated from Milwaukee High School in 2016. After graduation, he worked at Safeway and Walmart. During his free time, Olowan enjoyed playing video games, Fortnite, Call of Duty or Left 4 Dead, while playing his favorite songs. He enjoyed listening to music, especially XO Tour Llif3 by Lil Uzi. Everybody used to get mad at him for playing it loud on the speaker, but now, thinking about it, the family loved it because they did not like silence. The personal accomplishments and achievements he was most proud of was reading and writing Japanese.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and may his memory bring comfort to those lives he touched. He will always be remembered for his laughter and love of music. There will be no formal memorial service, as the family wishes to spend time with all the close family and friends in smaller groups, remembering wonderful memories of Olowan's life.
