Renée Florine Ducasse, 94, a 25-year-resident of Sonoma, California, passed away on July 22, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Renée, or Florine as she was more frequently called, was born in Paris (14th), France, November 19, 1920, and lived in the suburbs of Paris during her childhood. She developed a keen ability in any type of needle work, whether embroidery, knitting, or sewing. After the war, she worked in the administrative offices of Renault factory/HQ at Boulogne-Billancourt, France, which had been bombed by both British and Americans during WWII.
In 1955, as a divorced mother of one, she immigrated to the United States. She lived in San Francisco for the next 33 years. She began working in 1956 at Saks Fifth Avenue utilizing her sewing skills. Over the years, as her English improved, she was promoted to eventually becoming Manager of the Alteration Department and was awarded and recognized as having the best and most profitable department of the entire chain. Over the years at Saks, one of the perks of her position was the many celebrities and well-known persona of San Francisco society she got to meet.
After retiring, she travelled frequently going to Canada, Europe, Asia, Central and South America. She moved to Sonoma in 1989, where she was active with the Sister City program and FISH.
She is survived by daughter, Michelle Moore and her husband, Loren, of North Las Vegas, Nevada; by granddaughter, Kimberly Young and her husband, Brandon, of North Las Vegas; her sister, Mauricette Pierron of Bordeaux, France, and cousins in both America and France.
Final arrangements have been provided by Kraft-Sussman Funeral Home of Las Vegas, Nevada. Memorial donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice Foundation, 4131 Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89110 or at www.nah.org/donate.
