June 28, 1978 – October 25, 2025
Alexander Brent Thiel, 47, a beloved father, son, and brother, passed away unexpectedly on October 25, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona.
Alex was born on June 28, 1978, in St. Charles, Illinois, and grew up in Galesburg, Illinois, where he graduated from Galesburg High School and proudly played basketball. Shortly after graduation, he relocated to the Phoenix, Arizona area, where he spent the past 30 years building both a life and community he loved.
A skilled and hardworking independent contractor, Alex owned and operated his own painting and handyman business. Additionally, he spent ten years working in the IT department of two local high schools, Poston Butte, and San Tan Foothills. Beyond his work, he was defined by his deep love for people and his ability to make others feel connected, entertained, and cared for. Known for his quick wit, his love of music and culture, and his unshakable determination, Alex had a gift for bringing laughter and light into any room. Whether offering a wild idea or a word of encouragement, he always found a way to lift the spirits of those around him.
Of all his accomplishments, Alex’s greatest joy was his children. He devoted himself fully to supporting Mikayla, Nathan, Milana, and Noah, taking pride in every one of their endeavors and cheering them on with endless love and enthusiasm.
Alex was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harold “Bo” Jones and Leslie Liebovitz, and his paternal grandparents, John and Marilyn Thiel. He is survived by his children Mikayla Mitchell, Nathan Thiel, Milana Thiel, and Noah Thiel; his parents Jorja Thiel and Zack Thiel (Becky Wessels), both of Galesburg, Illinois; his brothers Taylor Thiel of Galesburg, Aaron (Valerie) Thiel of Maquon, Illinois, and Adam (Brian) Thiel-Wolf of Mansfield, Texas; his niece Kennedy Thiel of Dallas, Texas; his nephew Stone Thiel of Galesburg, Illinois; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him deeply.
A memorial service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, 1130 South Horne, Mesa, AZ 85204, on Thursday, November 6th at 12:00 PM. The family invites attendees to bring a funny story to share, as Alex would have wanted laughter more than tears. In spring of 2026, the family will be holding a celebration of life to further honor Alex in his childhood hometown of Galesburg, Illinois. Details will be shared when available.
