Billie Haywood
November 12, 1946 — May 16, 2026
“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.”
It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Bill Haywood, who departed this life on May 16th, 2026, at the age of 79.
Bill was born on November 12th, 1946, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to Bob and Lola Haywood. He was a strong-willed man who lived life on his own terms. You always knew where you stood with him, and whether you agreed with him or not, people respected the honesty and strength he carried throughout his life.
Bill was inducted into the United States Army at age 18. He honorably served his country in Vietnam earning the Purple Heart. His service to his country was a source of pride throughout his life and helped shape the discipline, resilience, and toughness that defined him. He carried the values he learned during his military years into every chapter of his life, and his dedication and service will always be remembered with honor and gratitude.
Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing but most importantly, he cherished the time spent with his granddaughter Sarah. He valued honesty over politeness and strength over excuses. He had a presence that could fill a room, a personality people never forgot, and a way of leaving behind stories that family and friends will tell for years to come. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and love into the lives of many.
Above all, he loved his family in his own way and leaves behind memories that will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him. He is lovingly survived by his wife Jo Ann, son Bill, daughter-in-law Gaby, granddaughter Sarah, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Bob, mother Lola, his brothers Charles, Everett, and Donald, and his sisters Opal (Perry), Edna (Youngless), Ethel (Martin), Thelma (Perry), and Patsy (Henegar).
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, there is comfort in knowing that his strength, humor, and unforgettable spirit will never truly leave the people who loved him.
The family would like to sincerely thank everyone for the love, prayers, support, and memories shared during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
