Jerry was born on July 3rd 1938 in Louisville, Kentucky to Arch & Vera Herrmann. At age of 8 months the Family relocated to Kansas City, MO. At age 8, the Family, then including Brothers Richard and Thomas, relocated to the Buffalo, NY area where Jerry resided until his graduation from Lancaster High School, Class of 1956. He then departed to pursue his college education at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Lexington, Virginia. He was granted a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering in June of 1960 and immediately entered service in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant assigned to duty with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC as an Air Delivery Officer.
He was married in 1960 to his High School Sweetheart, Marlene Delores North (deceased in August 1974). They were then assigned to duty in Germany where they remained for four years. Jerry then took command of the Stock Control Detachment in the Dominican Republic, subsequently redeployed to the US and deactivated. Jerry was then assigned to a 13 month unaccompanied tour of duty in South Korea. While there he and Marlene were blessed with a Son, Michael Edward Herrmann in 1967. Jerry was next assigned to a one year unaccompanied tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon return, Jerry was sent to the Graduate School of Business at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA where he earned a MBA degree two years later. While there he met and married Mary Elise (Davis) McFatter along with Stepdaughter Leslie and Stepson Lynn. His next and final Army assignment was to the USA Concepts Analysis Agency in Bethesda, MD.
Following discharge as a Major from the US Army after 20 years and 17 days of total service, the Family moved to Madison Connecticut when Jerry went to work as a Subcontract Manager for United Technologies in Norwalk, CT. Ten years later the Family moved to Long Island, NY when Jerry accepted the position of Director of Materials for Grumman Aerospace, later merged to become Northrop Grumman. While there, Jerry was united with a Daughter, Marie Balland. Ten years later Jerry accepted a position with NYNEX in New York City. NYNEX later merged into Bell Atlantic and finally merged with GTE to become Verizon. With that merger Jerry moved his Family and job to the Tampa, Florida area where he retired at age 69 with no unemployment since graduation from VMI in 1960.
Jerry lost his Mary Elise to Cancer in October 2009. He was preceded in death by his Father & Mother (deceased in 2009 on her Birthday at age 104), Wives Marlene and Mary Elise and Brother Thomas.
