James Christopher McNair
September 2, 1975 — June 4, 2026
James Christopher McNair September 2, 1975 – June 4, 2026 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Christopher McNair, who departed this life on June 4, 2026, at the age of 50. Born on September 2, 1975, in Mount Vernon, NY, James carried with him a passion for life, learning, and helping others.
He later made his home in Miami Beach, Florida, where he devoted his life to education, mentorship, and service to his community. As a teacher at iPrep Academy within the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system, James touched countless lives through his dedication to his students and his unwavering belief in their potential. He was also a coach who invested his time and energy in helping young people succeed both on and off the field.
A talented athlete, James was an accomplished baseball player who continued playing through his college years. His love of sports remained a lifelong passion. Beyond athletics, he was known for his love of music and his skill as a DJ, bringing energy and joy to those around him through the music he shared. James had a special place in his heart for animals, especially dogs. He cherished the companionship of his beloved dog and best friend, Yogi, who preceded him in death. Their bond was a source of great comfort and happiness throughout the years. Above all, James will be remembered for his generous spirit, his dedication to helping others, and the positive impact he made on the lives of his students, colleagues, friends, and family. His kindness, humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
James is survived by his loving parents, James and Lucy McNair from Tampa; his brother, Robert McNair from Ocala; and his sister, Melinda McNair from Maryland. He also leaves behind many friends, colleagues, former students, and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory. Though his time with us was far too short, James’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his teaching, coaching, friendship, and love.
A memorial service celebrating James’s life will be announced at a later date. *“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near”
