Kay Mizelle Jonasen

Kay Mizelle Jonasen, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the age of 85 in Land O’ Lakes, Florida. She was born on May 16, 1940, in Arcadia, Florida, the daughter of the late Ruth Williams Hart and the late Walter E. Mizelle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Patricia Hart Powers, and stepfather, Augustus C. Hart, Jr.

Kay spent her childhood in Pahokee, Avon Park, and Winter Garden, Florida, with her parents, great-grandparents, uncles, and aunts. After her marriage to her husband, Haakon A. Jonasen (Hank) in February 15, 1958, they lived in Orlando, Winter Garden, and Dade City, Florida. She is survived by her devoted husband and by her sister, Emilia Hart Leggens, her daughter, Mary Kay Savage, son-in-law, Dale Savage, son, Jeffery Jonasen, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins, all of whom she loved very much.

Kay graduated from Avon Park High School and received an Associate of Arts degree from Valencia Community College. She worked for the Orange County Public Schools for 21 years, beginning as a teacher aide at Rolling Hills Elementary School and retiring as a secretary in the OCPS administrative headquarters, where she made many friends and received accolades for her work. Kay was a voracious reader, an avid shopper, and an excellent dancer, but her greatest joys were her husband and family, to whom she dedicated most of her time and love.

Her family will celebrate Kay’s life on her birthday, May 16, with a family gathering starting at 11:30am at the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation at 21 E. Plant Street, Winter Garden, Florida 34787. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Kay’s memory to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism (https://flutiefoundation.org) or to a charity of your choice.
