Euclid Alford Walters
Oct 19, 1936 — May 6, 2026
Euclid Alford Walters, born on October 19, 1936, to Clara Thomas and Leonard Walters in Patience Hill, Tobago passed away peacefully in his home on May 6, 2026. He was 89 years old. Euclid recalled his childhood splitting his time between his mother in Tobago and his Aunt Jane in Toco, Trinidad. As a young man in Tobago, Euclid developed a passion for steel pan music and diesel mechanics and was blessed with two beautiful children; his eldest son, Fitzroy, affectionately known as “Dixie” and his daughter Avester.
In 1960, Euclid moved to Trinidad in search of employment, where he met and fell in love with his future wife, Griselda Haynes, a young woman from Barbados who he met while they lived in the same apartment building. While in Trinidad, Euclid played the steel drums, also known as “beat pan” with the Desperados, worked as a mechanic and drove taxis. In 1963, Griselda relocated with her family to Brooklyn, New York. Euclid pursued an opportunity of his own and was accepted into a diesel mechanics school in the United States and soon followed. The two were reunited, married, and began building a life together. He continued his passion for steel pan music and joined a band named The Merry Makers. Shortly after, his son, “Dixie” moved in with the couple. He continued to excel in the diesel mechanics arena and secured positions with The New York Bus Company in Bronx, New York as a supervisor and then was employed with The New York Transit. Dixie asked to return to live in Tobago and after settling in Brooklyn, New York, Euclid and Griselda welcomed three children; Ayioka, Marlene and Quincey. Following many years in New York, Euclid and Griselda relocated to Tampa, Florida, where they made their home. Euclid continued to follow his passion for mechanics, studied the Bible, was saved and focused on instilling Christian values to his family. After many dedicated years of service, Euclid retired as a foreman from Waste Management.
Euclid had a lifelong interest in music, education, philosophy, African studies, religion and was an avid book reader. He believed in the value of searching for truth. Euclid earned certification in diesel mechanics and then pursued his GED. He was called into ministry, ultimately graduating from the Ministry in Training (MIT) program. Euclid served in many capacities at church, including Sunday School Superintendent. He volunteered in prison ministry, prayed for patients at St. Joseph Hospital, was involved in community activism and spent many years babysitting his grandchildren and mentoring others.
Euclid is preceded in death by his mother Clara, father Leonard, son, Fitzroy “Dixie”, siblings- Litha, Denny, Janet, Hugh, Dean, Austell, Carlyle “Dickie” and Gary, nephew Dion and brother-in-law Everton.
