June 4, 1935 — March 25, 2014
Lydia Frances Avila, 78, of Santa Barbara, California, passed away on March 25, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.
Lydia was the 6th child of 10 born to Luis and Jessie Acosta. She graduated from Santa Barbara Catholic High School and worked at St. Francis Hospital and Mission Linen all through her high school years. After raising her daughters, Lydia went back to work at Franklin Elementary and Santa Barbara Jr. High. She was a dedicated Catholic, enjoying time spent at the church and feeding Santa Barbara's less fortunate for over 20 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Fernando "Fred" Avila, her daughters, Lydia Avila of Santa Barbara, Diana Justesen (Patrick) of Thousand Oaks, and Delphina Rangel (Earl) of Ventura, Sherrie Lopez (Larry) of Ventura, her son James Avila of Ventura, along with 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, and 5 of her siblings.
A rosary will be held on Tuesday April 1, 2014 at 7:00 PM at McDermott-Crockett Mortuary Chapel, 2020 Chapala St. Santa Barbara, The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday April 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Holy Cross Church 1740 Cliff Drive, Santa Barbara, CA, the burial will follow the mass at Calvary Cemetery 199 N Hope Ave. Santa Barbara, a reception will follow the burial in the parish hall at Holy Cross Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lydia's memory may be made to the Santa Barbara Cancer Center, 300 West Pueblo St. Santa Barbara, CA 93105
