Maria "Irma" Balboa
November 13, 1937 — August 16, 2023
Our beloved mother, Maria “Irma” Balboa, passed away peacefully at Cottage Hospital on August 16, 2023, at the age of 85 with her family at her side after a brief illness.
Irma was the youngest of eight children born to Paulita and Santiago Robles of Brownsville, Texas. All her siblings (Cruz, Luis, Pete, Maria, Katie, Fela, Dora) preceded her in death. Irma was born and raised in Brownsville. She graduated from Brownsville High School.
She married Homer Balboa Sr. in 1958. They have three sons, Homer Jr. (Sandra), Hector (Patricia), and Steve, and 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Irma and Homer moved their family from Brownsville to Santa Barbara in the late 1960’s.
Irma was a dedicated worker. She worked for Infomag and Applied Magnetics as a final inspector, where she met and made life-long friends. In her early years she enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She visited Acapulco, Puerta Vallarta, Mexico City, Las Vegas, Laughlin, Catalina Island, and Lake Tahoe.
Irma enjoyed her hobbies, including sewing, reading, arts & crafts, and decorating for Christmas, her favorite holiday. She enjoyed car rides to see the Christmas lights and decorations. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren
A Special Thank You to the caregivers at “Your Home” RCF for Elderly for the care they provided for Irma.
Graveside funeral services on September 15th @ 10 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, 199 N. Hope Avenue, Santa Barbara, CA 93110
