Deborah A. Thom
February 23, 1961 — March 27, 2026
Deborah Ann Thom (Smith), 65, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Debbie was born on February 23, 1961, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to the late Louis Smith and Angela Smith (Pelosi). In 1968, her family moved to Woodbury, where she grew up, attended Woodbury High School, and later earned her nursing degree from Cedar Crest College.
Debbie lived a life centered on caring for others. As a nurse, she dedicated her entire career to serving patients across South Jersey. She took great pride in her work and had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. Nursing wasn’t just what she did, it was who she was.
She raised her own family in National Park, where she built a home full of laughter, strong opinions, unconditional love, and countless memories. She had a special love for her dogs, who were always part of her family. Debbie loved the beach and traveling with her family.
She spent many summers in Ocean City and vacations in the Outer Banks, creating traditions and moments that her family will carry with them forever. Her greatest joy in life was her granddaughter, Ryleigh, who meant everything to her and brought her endless pride and happiness.
Although she had three children of her own, Debbie was known as “Momma Thom” to so many. She welcomed her children’s friends as if they were her own, offering love, support, and usually a good laugh. Her door was always open, and her presence made people feel at home.
Debbie will be remembered for her humor, her quick wit, and her ability to keep everyone on their toes. She had a way of making people laugh even in the hardest moments, and her spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy that will live on in every story, every memory, and every life she touched.
She is survived by her children: George (Amanda), Gayle (Marty) and Gregory (Valerie); her beloved granddaughter, Ryleigh; her siblings: Joseph (Vickie), Michael (Tammy), Jay (Diane Dahm), Rachael (Paul) Holgado, Kathryn (Mike) Spaeder along with many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Family and friends are invited to attend services on April 11, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at McGuinness Funeral Home in Woodbury, New Jersey. A Funeral Ceremony will take place at the funeral at 12:00 p.m..
Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Debbie by spending time with those you love, sharing laughter, and creating memories, just as she always did. In keeping with her love for animals, donations may be made in her memory to the Animal Welfare Association (AWA) at Donate to Local Animal Shelter | Voorhees | AWA NJ
